Angela Kim, MD, was born and raised in Redmond, WA. She graduated from the University of Washington in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Cell Biology, a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, and a minor in Philosophy. She received the prestigious President’s Award, a full academic scholarship granted to only two incoming freshmen. Dr. Kim went on to earn her Doctor of Medicine with Distinction in Basic Sciences from Rosalind Franklin University in 2018, where she was also recognized with the Outstanding Senior Project Award. While in medical school, she completed a summer fellowship program through Rosalind Franklin University.
Following medical school, Dr. Kim completed a preliminary year in Internal Medicine at the University of Kentucky, receiving her Intern Teaching Award. She then pursued her Ophthalmology Residency at the same institution, serving as Chief Resident in her final year. Soon after, she completed her Vitreoretinal Surgery fellowship with Retina Associates of Kentucky at the University of Kentucky.
Dr. Kim’s research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at national conferences. Her submissions include studies on diabetic retinopathy, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, and SARS-CoV-2 related ocular conditions. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Retina Specialists and the Society of Asian Academic Surgeons.
Dr. Kim is committed to community service, having provided eye exams and coordinated vision care for low-income or uninsured individuals through a variety of organizations, including the Salvation Army, the Rosalind Franklin Interprofessional Community Clinic, the Rosalind Franklin Ophthalmology Interest Group where she served as President, and the University of Kentucky Optical Assistance Program, which she cofounded. She has also completed a surgical mission trip to Guatemala which she hopes to continue pursuing as part of her career.
In her free time, Dr. Kim enjoys powerlifting, hiking, playing the piano, traveling, and spending time with loved ones.
